The DistractinatorTM: A game to help you focus.
In April 2014, Healthy Minds Canada launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the first in a planned series of mobile mental health apps designed to address a variety of mental health issues. Although we did not reach our fundraising goal for the campaign, we remain committed to developing our gaming ecosystem–and we did raise some funds.
So with those funds, our developers, Mojility, completed a smaller project – a fun, mobile game called The Distractinator for Android and iOS.
A common symptom of a variety of mental health issues (including in ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, and many others) is an inability to concentrate or focus.
Created with this particular symptom in mind, The Distractinator is a game that requires the user to focus on a very specific task to succeed. The game is built for touch-screen mobile and tablet devices, and in order to progress further in the game, users must tap on a moving circle.
Sounds easy, right? Just try it!
The distracting stimuli, consisting of changing backgrounds, sound, and increasing amounts of shapes in a variety of colours, sizes, and movement speeds, become more and more intrusive on the screen as the game progresses. You only have 10 seconds per level to find the circle.
The game is fun for all ages and is useful to anyone with or without a mental illness!
The Distractinator is now available for download in the Google Play Store for Android, and will be available on the Apple iOS Store soon.
