Rise is a registered charity that provides training, mentorship and low-interest small business loans to men and women with a history of mental health and addiction challenges. Based on the generous support of Sandra A. Rotman, this initiative was created jointly in 2009 by the Rotman School of Management and the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH). Rise offers Educational and Lending Programs. See below for details.

The Youth Small Business Program is designed for individuals aged 16 to 29 who self-identify as having experienced a mental health or addiction challenge (anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, anorexia, ADHD, autism spectrum, addiction, or similar challenges). This is a FREE course where participants develop entrepreneurship skills, gain practical tools and confidence, while converting their business idea into a viable customer centric business plan.

Rise Generator is a one-day fun and interactive workshop where you will learn from successful entrepreneurs with a history of mental health challenges and get started on the basics of business design. Get inspired; build a business using business design tools; and pitch for a chance to win a seat at the table at a special Generator LaUNCH with successful entrepreneurs, Rotman School of Management business faculty and experienced advisors.

Rise’s Peer Supported Lending Program is a FREE year-long program for entrepreneurs of any age who have a practical idea to start or grow their business. Entrepreneurs work in a group to access low-interest financing, mentors and peer support to grow their own businesses. Through the program, which runs at least once a year in the fall, successful applicants get connected to business mentors and industry experts in the community.
